Could you briefly walk us through your typical schedule when preparing for a Haute Couture season?\u00a0<\/b><\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It all begins with inspiration, which can come from anywhere and strike at anytime \u2014 it could be from travel, art, music, film or even a woman who becomes my muse. From there, a story begins to unfold and I begin to create. I am known to create quite a lot of sketches, sometimes hundreds and then the challenge is narrowing them down!\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Each and every piece demands countless hours, precision, the most exacting of standards and many, many layers. As well, many\u00a0stages\u00a0are embedded throughout the design process which, in return, require multiple fittings. Once each individual design is finalised, we begin with a toile to ensure the style, silhouette and cut is absolutely perfect \u2014 before moving into the final\u00a0stages\u00a0of design in which the actual fabrics and materials are ordered and the piece begins to take shape.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Of course, there are many\u00a0stages\u00a0in between depending on the details specific to the piece \u2014 it might require, for instance, intricate beading, cascading pearls, metal hardware, and so on. Once the piece is more or less together, another fitting is required and further tweaks are made until it is perfect.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Finally, as the show draws near, no two days are the same. While we are working to finalise the collection, we begin casting models, conduct fittings for each model once they have been chosen and we have matched them with a look \u2014 or looks \u2014 and, from there, really the work is not finished until the model is on the runway. There is also the element of music and finalising the playlist, the set production, the guest list, the seating, and so on and so forth. It’s not for the faint of heart!\u00a0<\/p>

With each season it is imperative that I remain true to who I am, creatively, while challenging myself through a creative lens; this\u00a0balance\u00a0is so important, and is what keeps me moving\u00a0forward but in a way that is authentic to my vision and to my ethos. This can,\u00a0for\u00a0instance, be seen in the techniques used, the details as well as the fabrics, which I build upon with each season. I have become quite known\u00a0for\u00a0my use of metalwork throughout my collections, which are wholly unique as well as innovative in technique. The collection is anchored in the notion of the elegance of Art Deco meets the spirit of Haute Couture \u2014 it is a celebration of opulence, precision, and modern allure. In this collection, every element \u2013 a harmonious blend of geometric art, delicate textures, and dazzling accents \u2013 celebrates the timeless allure of elegance reborn in a soft winter white wonderland. The essence of the collection is understated sophistication, femininity and divine artistry \u2014 a synthesis of exquisite art deco elegance built to last and crafted to inspire.<\/p>

The inspiration can be seen in the rich colours, the sharp cuts and precise silhouettes, and\u00a0of\u00a0course in the finest\u00a0of\u00a0details; from\u00a0mother\u00a0of\u00a0pearl\u00a0shards that shimmer with every\u00a0moment, to crisp, geometric edges that still somehow flow with grace and seamless fluidity. The details themselves \u2014 including and especially the mother-of-pearl shards and strung pearls \u2014 are so delicate, that I felt the colours, cuts and silhouettes of\u00a0the fabrics, as well as the materials themselves, should unite seamlessly with these ornate embellishments. In terms of the creative process behind these designs, the most challenging\u00a0aspect is the absolute care and unwavering, painstaking precision (all by hand, of course) \u2014 as well as innovative techniques \u2014 that these types of details require. Couture is ultimately about quality, craftsmanship and the finest materials. As an industry, couture has evolved beyond solely evening events and dressing for the red carpet, and now extends into one’s day-to-day life. It\u2019s not limited to sweeping gowns, a piece of couture might be a well-tailored suit, or exceptionally crafted and paired separates. It is not necessarily about the resulting style or type of clothing, but more about the creative process, design, innovation, technique and level of craftsmanship that went into the piece that sets is apart as haute couture versus ready-to-wear.<\/p>

As a designer, you\u2019re truly all-round: you\u2019ve created couture, ready-to-wear, interiors \u2014 and even watches, like your recent collaboration with Audemars Piguet. I would say it is tied with being invited to show on the official schedule at Haute Couture fashion week by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, and officially debuting in 2014 as the first British designer in over 100 years to be invited to show in Paris to the launch of my eponymous brand with my debut show for Autumn-Winter 2023\/2024.<\/p>
